This registry-based study examined the association between sleep-disordered breathing, multimorbidity, and mortality among individuals aged 65 and older. The study included more than 21,000 patients with sleep-disordered breathing, who were matched with over 86,000 control subjects from the general population.
The analyses showed that patients with sleep-disordered breathing had a higher prevalence of multimorbidity, particularly cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, as well as higher mortality rates compared to the control group.
i2minds contributed to the study design as well as the data processing and statistical analyses. The project demonstrates how national registry data and a matched study design can be used to identify disease patterns and risk profiles in large patient populations.
This registry-based study examined the long-term social and health-related consequences of ADHD, as well as the association between medication adherence and outcomes at age 30. Individuals with ADHD were identified in Danish national registries and matched with control subjects from the general population.
A key element of the project was the use of data from the Danish National Prescription Registry and the development of algorithms to calculate medication adherence—that is, how regularly prescribed medication was collected from the pharmacy. The algorithms were developed through close collaboration between clinical expertise, registry knowledge, and the construction of analysis-ready data.
The analyses showed that individuals with ADHD faced greater challenges regarding education and employment, higher healthcare costs, and more psychiatric comorbidity than the control group. No association was found between adherence to medical ADHD treatment and educational attainment at age 30.
i2minds contributed to the study design, data construction, and the development of algorithms for calculating medication adherence, as well as the execution of the statistical analyses. The project demonstrates how clinical knowledge and national registry data can be combined to shed light on the long-term consequences of disease and medical treatment across health, education, and the labor market.
